The topic of the Eco-school programme:
WASTE MINIMISATION (on October 17, 2002 the topic was extended to WATER)

WHAT HAVE WE DONE SO FAR?

On October 4, 2001 the school ECO-COMMITTEE was formed and the school ECO-CODE was established by the Committee. In October 2001 we carried out the first environmental review of our school grounds to assess the level of litter pollution on the school grounds (water and electricity consumption and management). We found out that the school grounds were very polluted. Litter bins were not being used enough and litter was scattered everywhere, especially large waste which had been left over in inadequate places. Our school was more environmentally aware (we had been celebrating all important eco days and holidays, we had been clearing away rubbish from the school grounds and there were litter bins placed inside and outside the school).

In October 2002 we carried out the second enviromental review of the school. OUR SCHOOL HAS A NEW, ORIGINAL ECO IMAGE AND THE SCHOOL GROUNDS HAVE BECOME MORE APPEALING!

The following enviromental activities have been carried out so far: - Two enclosed eco-gardens - An eco-exhibition area - An ethnological corner - An eco-workshop - Two eco-noticeboards and eco-wall papers - We have painted and illustrated the school entrance (7 steps), other glass surfaces and a part of the gym wall. - Each class has got a PAPERMAN. - We discard recyclable waste into the school bins on a daily basis. - We co-operate with the local businesses on a regular basis: • Čistoća d.d., a local waste collection service – plastic packaging and tin cans • Knežija Recycling Yard – old batteries • Recobot Trust – paper collection to clear the Republic of Croatia of mines
